Before you begin shopping for bathroom tub faucets, you have to know the exact measurement of the holes where the faucets will be placed. The measurement you are looking for is the width between the centers of each hole. This is very important for proper installation so be sure to take an accurate measurement.
When you are ready to begin your project, locate the rear access panel in the back of your tub. This panel will give you easy access to the faucets for their replacement. Next, turn off the main water supply to ensure that water is not traveling through your pipes while you work.
To remove the faucet handle, you will need to pull it gently. In some cases, the handle may be welded to the stem assembly. Do not apply force to get it out. If pulling it gently does not remove the handle, then you will need to invest in a handle puller. They are available at many hardware stores and online for $5 – $15. This tool will prevent damage to the stem assembly.
Next, use a bath socket wrench to remove the trim and the stem assembly. At this point, you can remove the washer. Now take your new bathroom tub faucets and grease the washer, stem, and nuts. Slide everything into place and tighten the nuts with your wrench. Turn your water supply back on and check to see if there are any leaks. If you do not see any leaks or drips, then you have properly installed your bathroom tub faucets.
